Hudson Dealerships

"Hudson Motor Car Co. of New York, Inc. in many cities of New York and even New Jersey."

- Bronx, Brooklyn, New Rochelle, and New York, and White Plains, NY.

Bronx, NY

New Rochelle, NY

Hudson Motor Car Company of New York, Inc.
Main and Spring Sts per New York Herald of Jan 2, 1916 (No intersection known as Main & Spring Sts. in New Rochelle, so assuming this was a reference to 2 locations?) and then at 567 Main St per New York Tribune of March 23, 1920. Photo shows Talner Jewelers at 567 Main St. location as of 2009. NYHerald of Dec 26, 1915 (clipping follows under New York, NY listing) also references this dealership to open at Centre & Main, which is the same address as 567 Main.

UPDATE: City Historian Barbara Davis checked the directories and found that at one time there was a Hudson Motor Company located at 291 Main Street, an Reo Motor Co. across the street at 290 Main Street, and a Cadillac dealership at 297 Main. She believes these were located on either side of the block between Centre and Maple – which later would become the RKO Theater (south side) and Loews Theater (north side). Main Street numbers changed in 1919, so it’s a bit of challenge to peg exact locations. But - the Talner’s building was constructed in 1929. At the turn of the 19th Century Scott’s Feed Store was located in a wood-frame building on the site. Not sure what was there in-between, but know Lasus bicycle repair was located across the street – and that was 275 Main Street. Centre Avenue has always been Centre Avenue. Spring Street has always been a short street from River Street to Cedar Street. So it seems that perhaps Hudson Motors had a couple locations in New Rochelle – one or two on Main Street and one on Spring Street (although a Spring Street location has yet to be found in the directories.)
